This set of duos emerged from a desire to create something that would be both practical for the performer as well as for myself as composer. They were composed in Portland, OR between late April and early July 2024, at a rate of roughly one per week. I wanted to write as unselfconsciously and freely as possible, and as a result, the styles presented in this volume vary widely. As such, many pieces are either more “backward looking” or shamelessly derivative than I might normally be comfortable with. I hope that performers will find them to be practical short works that can be performed at small musical gatherings and concerts as single movements or in any combination. In keeping with this goal, I have included an awkwardly large set of alternative versions for the pieces that lend themselves to other instrumentations.
